There are 113 Cannabinoids produced by the Cannabis Sativa L. Plant
The cannabinoids work with the endo-cannabinoid receptors in your brain & nervous system (we all have at least 2 known endo-cannabinoid systems and they are called the CB1 which is mostly found in the brain, & CB2 which is mostly found in the central nervous system) The most well known of the cannabinoid compounds are CBD, CBD-a, CBN, CBC, CBG, THC and THC-a (the last two are psychoactive and as such remain illegal for recriational use in the UK) CBD promotes calmness by dealing with the body's endo-cannabinoid systems.

We use 99.9% pure CBD because it has many exhaulted benefits, it is thought that CBD can have remarkable therapeutic effects when used against many inflammatory & oxidative diseases, including diabetes, rhumatoid arthritis, alzheimers, parkinsons disease and of course the 2 big killers, stress & anxiety.

Terpenes are another group of natural compounds found in cannabis as well as most herbs, fruits, flowering plants & even some insects. (See image below to see some common terpene and where they might be found). They are the taste, aroma and flavour compounds that come together to build what is known as the Flavour Profile of the plant.

There are over 100 terpenes isolated from the cannabis plant, and apart from producing the taste, aroma & flavours of your favourite strain, many are also well known for their 'entourage effects'. terpenes have their own unique benefits, they are lipophilic compounds that can easily cross human membranes, and in particular the blood-brain barrier. this enables the beneficial CBD to be uptaken by the endo-cannabinoid receptors in your brain & nervous system.

Examples of terpene entourage effects;
Linalool, known to be anagesic, anti-anxiety and amoung other things anti-inflammatory. It can also used as used as an anti-convulsant.
D-Limonene, a powerful terpene which reputedely exhibits anxiolytic immunostimulating properties in humans (as well as other mammals, dogs, horses etc).

See the terpene v flavour v effect chart below it shows you both the individual taste & flavour profiles of a terpene as well as the entourage effects of each of the most commonly found terpenes found in any given strain.

Cannabis strain-specific terpene profiles. There is a common misconception about cannabis terpenes, and it is that cannabis terpenes are unique to cannabis plants. In fact, the 'Individual terpenes' are not unique in any way. A simple explanation of this would be Limonene, this is the terpene that not only gives you the lemon flavour in your Super Lemon Haze, it's also exactly the same (identical) to the terpene Limonene found in your common-or-garden edible lemons.

Nature shares just one pallet of flavours, from which all flavour profiles are created. (including cannabis)

However, what does make cannabis stand out from other terpene producing plants, is the sheer variety of terpene profiles that can be achieved by different growing, feeding, drying & curing techniques. So far there appears to be an unlimited amount of variations in terpene profiles created by the cannabis plant. This is the main reason we have the so many great but different tasting strains today.

White Box Extracts bring you the most authentic terpene profiles from the highest regarded UK & European strains.
